Buy button coming to Google search results

07/08/2015

"There's going to be a buy button. It's going to be imminent" informs Google's Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordestani. Currently termed 'Google Buy', the new button would enable users to purchase products directly from the search results without needing to visit a separate website.

The change comes amidst reports from Google suggesting that mobile traffic from smartphones and tablets are the future of e-commerce and the shopping experience must therefore be as streamlined as possible.

The move has raised fears amongst online retailers however, who feel the update will impact upon their relationship with the customer and threaten their ability to engage directly with them. Not all consumers will be driven purely by price point however, and herein lies the opportunity for website owners to add further value to users still choosing to visit their website to make a purchase. This can be achieved by creating new and engaging content to boost brand loyalty for example, as well as by improving the user-experience of browsing products and ranges.
