Amazon launch fresh food delivery service in the UK

09/06/2016

AmazonFresh - an online grocery delivery service operating in the US since 2007 - has finally made it's first step across the pond to the UK. Initially the service will only be available to 69 postcodes in London, but a phased rollout will see this grow to include other parts of the city in due course.

Currently only available to Amazon Prime subscribers, the new service is being offered at an additional £6.99 a month, which would cover the delivery of multiple grocery orders.

Directly competing with the existing online supermarket giants like Tesco, Ocado, Sainsbury's and ASDA, Amazon Fresh are piling the pressure on their competitors by offering same-day delivery for orders before 1pm and even have plans for a one-hour delivery service in due course.

With some UK supermarkets already struggling with the shift towards online shopping and the emergence of a new generation of discount stores such as Aldi and Lidl, it certainly raises a question about whether some of the brands we're so familiar with will still be there in the near future.
