Experience Music in Virtual Reality

Among Google’s many experimental projects, a new web-based musical experience has caught our eye this month. ‘Inside Music’ is a virtual reality tool that allows users to explore sound in a 3D environment.
As you move around the 3D space you can explore how different components of a song - such as the bass or percussion sections - work together to create the full composition. Moving closer to the guitars for example will make them louder in your mix. You can even create your own orchestration by turning off certain components at different times in the track.
Although this new experiment is somewhat trivial, it’s part of an important industry-wide exploration into the ways in which readily available digital technology can be used to create new creative web-based tools and engaging experiences for the future.
